| The market is split into several sections. |
One of the chief advantages of buying from a WI Market is knowing exactly where the product has come from, and indeed being able to speak to the person who produced it (all produce has to comply with all current regulations). This is not a complete product listing, just a taste of what we sell.
Some producers have their own web sites, links are provided, but the WI Market is not responsible for the content of these sites and they may contain information over and above that which relates to the WI Market.
The market currently has about six regular large producers plus a range of smaller specialist cooks, producing a large range of product. Breads, cakes, sponges, buns, cookies, pastries, savoury dishes, meat pies, vegetarian meals, puddings and deserts. A huge range of jams, marmalades, chutneys and pickles, clotted cream, butter, garlic butter and curd cheese. Each producer has their own style of cooking as well as their own recipes. If you order, your favourite items can be held back for you (be sure to indicate when you expect to be in)
Don't miss the vegetable section of the Market for a top-class selection of "Home-Grown" seasonal fruit and vegetables.
We have a wide variety of produce from cabbages to cooking apples. Very popular are the soft fruits, starting in the spring with rhubarb followed by gooseberries, strawberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, and raspberries.
All of our produce is picked, cut or dug fresh for the market. Come early or place an order to ensure that you do not miss out on the favourites, eg. spinach, sprouts, carrots, artichokes, runner beans, soft fruit.
Our produce is grown in our own gardens, fields or allotments with minimum use of sprays. Indeed part of the produce is registered "Organic" with the "Soil Association" and hence certified to be completely free from artifical pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides. (Product is clearly labeled and the certificate is on display)
We also offer some more unusual vegetables such as chinese leaves, purple sproating broccoli, and yellow courgettes as well as fresh bunched herbs, ie. parsley, rocket, and mint etc. when available.
There are a vast range of plants on offer, including an extensive amount of unusual herbs, bulbs, herbaceous perennials, shrubs, climbers, conservatory and house plants. All propagated and grown by our producers in their gardens. Many of the plants are unusual and not found in garden centres, but of course include all the old favourites. You can also ask the people who grew them, how to look after them or for advice on an awkward spot in your garden. So if you want a Pandorea jasminoides "Rosea Superba" or just need a Lupin check us out first!
We sell Ostritch, lamb, smoked meats, smoked fish, sausages, free range and farm fresh eggs.
The meat comes from family farms and the farmers come in to sell their product themselves.

Here the range and quality are outstanding, hand and machine knitting, crochet, embroidery, patchwork, sewing, quilting, water colours, photography, wood turning, and hand crafted pewter. All our craft producers will make to order (deposit required) and there is never sufficient room to display all the different items they make so its always worth asking if you want something you can't see, ie. bedjackets or coat hooks.
