Fantasy Speedway 2002 - Archive - The
Full Table
The seasons over (well a few weeks ago - sorry) -
Suzie managed to extend her lead to 42 points, comfortably taking the title
(with a new championship record in the process).
The league ended in a bit of a farce with Peterborough and Oxford failing to
complete their fixture before the end of the season. However, even Rob will have
to admit (obviously begrudgingly) that it would of been an impossible task for
Lukas Dryml and Mark Lemon to score 43 points between them to snatch the
championship - but it certainly would have been closer!!
At the other end of the table, Mat Toy despite being the high scorer of the
last week was unable to reach 1000 points, this too is an all time record! For
the history buffs amongst you Andrew Hagger held the record with 991 (the first
person ever to score under 1000 points - but Mat has managed to eclipse this
record with ease - well done. Andrew's - "I Don't want to be last this
time" team managed a creditable 14th place.

So now is the time to start planning your 2003 teams, and to help here are
some interesting facts.
- Leigh Adams was the highest scorer with 487 points and he
only appeared in one team - Matthew Frosts. (rather bizarrely exactly half
Mat Toy's final score!)
- Eight riders scored 400 points or more -
- Leigh Adams 487 [Matthew Frost]
- Sean Wilson 453
- Carl Stonehewer 438
- Tony Rickardson 434 [Justin, Barry, Anthony, Hoff,
Steve] No risks with the World Champ
- Adam Shields 430 [Simon] - Inspired, I've never heard
of him
- Mario Jirout 422 [Suzie]
- Leigh Lanham 410
- Scott Nicholls 400 [Simon, Dorothy, Paul P, Rob]
- The most improved rider was Andrew Appleton who from a 3.00
average scored 333 points (all the riders above had between 9 to 11 point
averages), but nobody picked him! Second was Theo Pijper who scored 212 from
a 3 point starting average [Mira and Rob both picked this wonder boy]
- The worst riders (based on their starting averages) were
Ben Howe (17 points from a 7.61 average) and Ashley Jones (18 points from a
7.0 average). However, this pales into insignificant when you look at Jesper
Olsen who scored 0 points from a 8.1 average - and yes, Andy Taylor selected
him as his best rider and persevered all season (despite being reminded
about the transfer possibilities on many occasions). I think this shows the
quality of Mat Toy's team selection, as Andy still managed to beat him.
Looking forward to next season
